Charlie writes about the everyday lives of people in the past and how they can help us understand the present. He has a PhD in History from Birkbeck, University of London, where his thesis explored the experience of street food sellers in the early modern capital. He has also held postdoctoral positions at the Institute of Historical Research and Trinity College Dublin. Before returning to academia, he worked as a journalist specialising in food and business. Charlie currently works as a policy expert at the Food, Farming & Countryside Commission, a UK charity advocating for better food and farming. Now living in north London, he was brought up on on his family’s dairy farm in Devon.
